What we’ve been up to this past quarter, in all ProVeg’s different areas of action.

We support and connect global partners and start-ups to advance plant-based and cultivated food innovation; we raise public awareness around the multiple benefits of these foods.

Alternative proteins and investments continue to boom, as reflected by two major ProVeg conferences

New Food Invest: A number of food-industry giants attended the inaugural edition of New Food Invest, a virtual summit hosted by ProVeg International and Beyond Animal, on 18 March, in a multi-region program of panels, lectures, startup pitches, and networking led by industry experts, impact investors, pioneering CEOs, and founders from around the world. The summit was attended by approximately 400 participants and featured over 75 speakers, with at least USD 75 million available in total from participating investors.

New Food Conference: The New Food Conference, Europe’s leading conference on alternative proteins, took place on 28 and 29 April as a completely virtual experience. Some of the biggest names in the food industry, including Josh Tetrick (Eat Just), Will Schafer (Beyond Meat), Rosie Wardle (Synthesis Capital), Nicolas Dhers (Carrefour), and Cecilia McAleavey (Oatly), gathered to discuss the future of the alternative-protein movement in lively panel discussions and inspiring fireside chats. The event, attended by more than 400 delegates and 50 international speakers from the food industry, startup scene, investment, and academia, offered a stage to key stakeholders in the field of innovative food technologies.

The wonderful and innovative world of startups – nine more companies joined the ProVeg Incubator

Nine pioneering companies, from Mexico, Chile, India, and across Europe, comprise the sixth cohort of the world’s leading incubator of plant-based and cultured-food startups.

For 12 weeks, the startups will be supported with 1-on-1 mentoring, expert-led workshops, marketing support, access to the Incubator’s extensive network of industry contacts, and up to €200,000 in funding.

Albrecht Wolfmeyer, Head of the ProVeg Incubator, said, “For the sixth time, the ProVeg Incubator has assembled an impressive line-up of startup teams from around the world who are working on trail-blazing innovations to change the food system.”

The cohort includes a variety of innovative products – from plant-based eggs, meat, and pet food to mushroom-based meat and dairy made from discarded fruit pits.
