When it comes to turning 50, many people can be found on a beach lost in a pina colada or a strawberry smoothie.
But not ProVeg’s CEO, Jasmijn de Boo!
This Saturday, 9 August, inspired by her namesake Jasmin Paris, who was the first woman ever to complete the notoriously difficult Barkley Marathon, Jasmijn will attempt an epic 51km ultramarathon at more than 2,000 metres elevation.
Jasmijn, who has never run more than a half marathon before, will be running through the rugged Welsh Brecon Beacons (Bannau Brycheiniog) — all in support of a kinder, more sustainable food system.
She’s had just one month to train (and with an injury!), is fresh off six weeks of back-to-back travelling for ProVeg, and has even managed an emergency house-move in the middle of it all!
But when it comes to standing up for people, animals, and the planet, Jasmijn is unstoppable.

Why does this ultramarathon matter?
Jasmijn is dedicating her birthday challenge to the urgent work of ProVeg International – supporting the transition to plant-based food systems that protect our climate, public health, animal welfare, and global food security.
But this is far more than just a physical feat. It’s a statement of commitment to a better future – one in which nutritious, accessible, and sustainable food is the norm.
From training chefs and school caterers to serve healthier meals, to influencing food policies at the EU and UN levels, to helping supermarkets and restaurants offer more plant-based options – ProVeg’s global impact is growing rapidly, but there’s still so much more to do.

Your gift makes double the impact
A generous donor has offered to match donations up to $10,000 – doubling the impact of your support for the health of people, animals, and the planet.
Please consider making a donation of €51 – or any other amount that feels right for you – that’s €1 for every kilometre that Jasmijn completes.
Together, let’s raise €20,000 (€20,000) for kinder and more sustainable food systems!
