The fire broke out in the Blue Zone of the UN climate summit on Thursday
ProVeg International staff were safely evacuated from the site of this year’s UN climate summit in Brazil after a fire broke out in the Blue Zone yesterday afternoon.
According to press reports, 13 people suffered smoke inhalation during the blaze on Thursday, 20 November.
Eileen Valy, Head of Digital Engagement at ProVeg, was one of a seven-member delegation attending the summit to promote the benefits of plant-rich diets in reducing global emissions.
“The ProVeg delegation is safe and unharmed following the huge fire that broke out at the COP30 venue,” Valy said.
“While we regret that our remaining events had to be cancelled, and personal belongings had to be left behind, as the venue had to be closed after all delegates had been evacuated, we’re grateful that no one was seriously injured and that we were swiftly evacuated.”
Valy thanked the brave volunteers who pointed ProVeg and other attendees towards the nearest exit.
