Vegan pizza at Diva’s in Cape Town

As the movement grows, more and more restaurants and cafes are offering vegan options. Last week, Diva Pizza on Buitenkant St hosted a Vegan Pizza Night with ProVeg SA, offering a delectable tasting of vegan pizzas and desserts.

It doesn’t get much better than this: thin-crust pizza with caramelised red onion, artichokes, olives, mushrooms and… CHEESE! Vegan cheese, obviously. Diva Pizza is where it’s at. This romantic little restaurant on Buitenkant St has the best pizza in Cape Town (in my opinion). Naturally, 30 of us decided to swarm there for a dinner party. A variety of options were on offer – some with the “I can’t believe it’s vegan” Violife mozzarella, and some au naturel (without cheese): cheese-lovers and light appetites alike were catered for. Pro tip: their Diva Deluxe (hold the feta) is delicious and oh-so-vegan-friendly, I inevitably add a couple of extra gourmet veg toppings, and the best part is, they don’t charge you to swap ingredients.          Diva Pizza normally only has one vegan dessert option (a lovely sorbet), but the owner went out of his way to try out two new vegan dessert options: a beautiful chocolate cupcake, spongy and rich and moreish; and a tofu cheesecake with the perfect consistency, just like a traditional baked cheesecake! Next time you’re at this gem of a restaurant, find out if they have Violife vegan cheese in stock to add to your pizza – they might just! And maybe, just maybe they’ll have those delicious vegan desserts on offer too…
