Sorghum Leaf Tea

Ingredients

    Sorghum leaf dry
  • 2 cups
    Water
  • Date Syrup/ Powder optional, adjust to taste
  • Lemon or mint optional

Instructions

  1. Rinse the sorghum leaf thoroughly under cold water to remove any debris or impurities.

  2. Boil 2 cups of water in a medium sized saucepan

  3. Add the rinsed sorghum leaf to the boiling water.

  4. Reduce the heat to low, cover the saucepan, and let the sorghum simmer for about 30-40 minutes.

  5. Remove it from heat once the sorghum tea has reached your preferred consistency.

  6. Strain the tea through a fine mesh strainer or cheesecloth into a teapot or serving pitcher to remove the solid leaf.

  7. Add date syrup or date powder to sweeten the tea, if desired, and a slice of lemon or a sprig of mint for extra flavour.

  8. Serve the sorghum tea hot or let it cool and refrigerate it for a refreshing cold drink.

Notes

When preparing your sorghum tea, carefully strain the liquid with a fine sieve or cheesecloth. This crucial step ensures no leaf particles enter your cup, delivering a smooth and satisfying tea experience.
