- Cooking Time: 30 minutes
- Total Time: 1 hour
Ingredients
-
2-3green or ripe plantains
-
Vegetable oil
-
Salt Adjust to taste
Instructions
-
Use a knife to cut off the ends of the plantains carefully, then make a lengthwise slit along the ridges of the plantains.Remove the peel and discard.
-
Using a sharp knife or a slicer, slice the plantains into thin, uniform rounds or strips. You can adjust the thickness to your preference, but thinner slices will cook faster and be crispier.
-
Heat enough vegetable oil to submerge the plantain slices in a deep frying pan or a pot. Heat the oil to around 350-375°F (175-190°C).
-
Add a batch of plantain slices to the hot oil carefully, ensuring they are not overcrowded. Fry them until they turn golden brown and crispy, usually about 2-3 minutes per side for green plantains and 1-2 minutes for ripe plantains.
-
Use a slotted spoon to remove them from the oil and drain on paper towels.
-
Sprinkle them with salt to taste while the plantain chips are still hot. Add other seasonings like chilli powder, garlic powder, or paprika for extra flavour.
-
Continue frying the remaining plantain slices in batches until they are all crispy and golden brown.
-
Allow the plantain chips to cool completely before serving. Enjoy your homemade plantain chips as a delicious snack!
