ProVeg UK hosted a webinar titled ‘Food & Climate: Levers for Change – Your Plate Has Power: Why Food Choices Matter for the Planet’ as part of the London Climate Action Week (LCAW). It’s the largest city-wide climate festival in Europe, attracting over 45,000 people annually. Currently in its 7th edition, LCAW connects organisations and the public to shape global climate action, drive an inclusive net-zero transition in London and the UK, align the city’s climate sector, and foster engagement at different levels to accelerate decarbonisation.
Keeping food as a key lever for change, the webinar featured ProVeg UK’s School Plates team, who introduced our programme and provided information about the connection between food and climate, championing sustainable school food. We shared data on the carbon footprint of different school meals, ideas to reduce their environmental impact, and strategies to improve student health with nutritious and climate-friendly menus.
Oci Stott, a Climate Action Advisor at Let’s Go Zero, a national campaign uniting teachers, students, parents, and their schools to become zero carbon by 2030, and Andy Rayment, Programmes Manager at Bite Back – a youth-led activist movement challenging food systems – joined the event to bring their perspectives and suggest ways to work together to transform school environments and empower healthier, more sustainable choices.
This session was an inspiring opportunity to share ideas, spark meaningful discussions, and explore tangible steps that can help create a food system that works for people and the planet. Thank you so much to everyone that joined and to our wonderful guest speakers.
