ProVeg Czechia establishes export alliance to support Czech plant-based food producers

The Czech branch of ProVeg International, a leading food awareness organization with the mission to reduce the global consumption of animals by 50% by 2040, has established an export alliance with the support of the government-run agency, CzechTrade.

The goal of the ProVeg Czech Export Alliance is to support the export of Czech plant-based foods. The main aim of the alliance is to establish the presence of sustainable and innovative Czech plant-based products on foreign markets. In addition to its own members, the alliance also works with other players in the Czech export industry.

“While interest in plant-based foods has grown significantly in the Czech Republic in recent years, the market for plant-based foods in Western markets presents a great opportunity for exports,” commented Martin Ranninger, Country Director of ProVeg Czechia.

“A number of Czech food producers have already managed to gain a foothold in foreign markets, which is why we very much welcome cooperation with CzechTrade to help us provide strategic support for Czech companies,” said Ranninger.

“The newly established ProVeg Czech Export Alliance is proof that Czech food producers see the economic potential of plant-based foods, while also recognizing their lower environmental impact, compared to animal-based products.”

Jana Trnková, an export consultant for CzechTrade, said: The CzechTrade Export Alliance service that we provide is very useful for companies in the context of trade presentations abroad. Exporters can effectively share know-how and costs and use synergies resulting from cooperation. Within CzechTrade, several alliances are already working very well. An alliance focused on plant-based foods is another one that makes sense and fulfills our goal of promoting Czech products abroad,” said.

“From plant-based alternatives to meat and dairy products to sweets and cereal products, Czech plant-based products have already established a presence on foreign markets,” adds Ivana Procházková from ProVeg Czechia, who will work closely with the members of the alliance and coordinates the activities of the alliance.

First members

The first members of the alliance are SEMIX PLUSO, kojibakers, Janova pec, Soyka and Ovegano Foods. “In addition to the five founding members, we are already registering interest from other companies that also want to join the alliance,” said Procházková. “This will help members of the alliance with promotion at foreign trade fairs, but also in negotiations with stakeholders in individual countries, including agrarian diplomats.”

An important task of the alliance will also be to monitor trends and provide relevant materials, such as surveys of individual markets, so that the companies in the alliance are able to keep abreast of activities in the sector.

The Export Alliance is also ready to act on behalf of its members at home in terms of engaging with government agencies. “It is in the interest of the Czech Republic to include alternative proteins in its strategic policies as soon as possible. Such an approach will not only help to mitigate climate change but will also make Czech agriculture and the Czech food industry more competitive,” explains Procházková.
