What we’ve been up to this past quarter, in all ProVeg’s different areas of action.

We work with governmental agencies and non-profit organizations to create sustainable food policies and practices.

Historic first – the catering at COP28 was two-thirds plant-based!

Through the efforts of ProVeg, YOUNGO, and FoodatCOP, two-thirds of the catering at this year’s UN Climate Summit, which took place in Dubai, UAE, was vegetarian or vegan – a historic first in 28 years of UN climate talks. This follows ProVeg’s joint statement with partners asking for inclusive sustainable catering at the conference. This development sends a clear call for a global shift to climate-friendly diets!

We also brought back the Food4Climate Pavilion, a hub organized by ProVeg to host expert discussions and engage with a diverse group of stakeholders at this year’s event. The two-week conference was packed with numerous side events, panel discussions, and press conferences. Our Great Food Debate, the first event we hosted at the Food4Climate Pavilion, attracted a large audience and brought together both plant-rich advocates and livestock stakeholders. Our side event, hosted together with the World Health Organization, was also well-received, with Dr. Ailan Li, Assistant Director-General of Universal Health Coverage, opening the event with a discussion about healthy and sustainable plant-rich diets.

Now in its second year, the pavilion allowed us to expand our partnerships and engage with more than 100 speakers and delegates from around the world. We are thrilled by the magnificent strides we are making internationally, and look forward with anticipation to what lies ahead for next year’s edition of COP.
