ProVeg

ProVeg across the world

Our country teams have been making major strides in schools, policy, social media, and plant-based innovation. From university canteens in Portugal to alternative-protein advocacy in Germany, here’s a look at what ProVeg has been working on around the globe.

Belgium

For the fifth year in a row, ProVeg Belgium teamed up with Eetcafé Toreke for a festive summer collaboration. During the Gentse Feesten, one of the biggest popular festivals in Europe (which has been officially recognised as Flemish intangible heritage), ProVeg Belgium transformed their courtyard into a cosy pop-up.

The Ghent Festivities draw thousands of visitors over ten days, with concerts, performances, and activities all over the city. With so much going on, people are always on the lookout for tasty and affordable food. And that’s exactly what our colleagues offered: 100% plant-based dishes, served in a warm and welcoming setting.

Brazil

ProVeg Brazil recently partnered with the Brazilian Vegetarian Society, the National Confederation of Agricultural Workers, and Mesa da COP in order to put the spotlight on farming projects in the Amazon, along with plant-based consulting for restaurants and support for producer transitions. The revamped ProVeg Brazil website is now live, capping off a strong digital push as Brazil gears up for deeper engagement ahead of COP30. You can check out their website here.

Czechia

The Czech team has launched a new accredited course on nutrition and chronic disease prevention for health professionals, including doctors, students, and therapists. Co-director Martin Ranninger was recently recognised as one of the Faces of Sustainability, while a consumer-facing Veggie Challenge webinar on plant-based meat alternatives drew more than 200 participants.

Germany

ProVeg Germany collaborated with the Good Food Institute Europe and BALPro to co-host the first political breakfast of the new parliamentary term. The event brought together members of Parliament, ministry officials, and leaders from the alternative-protein space. Preparations are also underway for the V-Label Awards, which celebrates positive impacts in the plant-based sector.

Netherlands

The Veggie Challenge campaign in the Netherlands has made great headway with cycling communities, including coverage in RIDE magazine and partnerships with Bailey Freestyle and Cycling4Climate. ProVeg was also featured in the national news programme Nederlandse Omroep Stichting in a piece on vegetarian restaurants.

Portugal

In Portugal, ProVeg’s partnership with a catering company has already doubled the plant-based meal offerings at the University of Porto. Events and tastings at a recent university sports gathering reached around 200 people, and received positive feedback.

United Kingdom

In the UK, the ProVeg team were in the spotlight at London Climate Action Week, hosting a panel on ‘Food & Climate: Levers for Change’ and speaking at other high-profile events. Meanwhile, a new pilot project dubbed ‘the Cumbria Carrot’ is linking farms to school meals, with a focus on local, plant-forward sourcing. Encouraging signals are also coming from national government, with plans for revising school-food standards, which currently require meat three times a week and dairy every day.
