In China, ProVeg is actively shaping the scientific and financial infrastructure required for alternative proteins to achieve price and taste parity in one of the world’s most critical markets.

• Unlocking public R&D funding: ProVeg China continued to convene key stakeholders across academia, industry, government, and investment through public speaking forums, seminars, and webinars to elevate alternative proteins within China’s innovation agenda. Building on the NeoProtein Blue Paper—developed jointly with the CIFST NeoProtein Professional Committee and 48 leading scientists—these efforts helped align research priorities around critical technical bottlenecks in the sector. As of today, ProVeg China has successfully influenced research priorities and contributed to unlocking US$2 million in public R&D funding for projects addressing these challenges.
• Securing the next-generation talent pipeline: Through the 2026 Food Innovation Challenge, ProVeg China engaged students from more than 200 universities across the country, equipping future innovators with the skills and industry exposure needed to advance sustainable food systems. The program continues to strengthen the pipeline of emerging talent driving the future of alternative proteins in China.
