Did you know that falafel tastes great on a burger bun? Try this recipe for homemade falafel burgers with homemade sweet potato fries. Short on time? Many supermarkets sell ready-made falafel burgers and pre-cut sweet potato fries.

Ingredients

For the sweet potato fries

  • 100 g
    garden peas frozen
  • 200 g
    sweet potatoes
  • 1 tbsp
    olive oil

For the falafel burgers

  • 400 g
    chickpeas when from a can: drained and rinsed
  • 15 g
    parsley fresh
  • 1
    lemon only use the juice
  • 4 tbsp
    tahini
  • salt to taste

For serving

  • 1
    red onion sliced
  • 1
    tomato sliced
  • 2
    hamburger buns if possible gluten-free
  • 4 tbsp
    sauce of choice e.g. mustard, mayonnaise, ketchep

Instructions

Prepare the sweet potato fries

  1. Allow the garden peas to thaw.

  2. Preheat the oven to 200°C (390°F) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

  3. Scrub the sweet potatoes clean and cut them into fries without peeling. Spread them on the baking sheet and drizzle with ½ tablespoon of olive oil. Bake the sweet potato fries for 30 minutes, flipping them halfway through.

Making the falafel burgers

  1. Rinse and dry the chickpeas. In a food processor, combine the chickpeas with 5 grams of parsley, lemon juice, and tahini. Process until smooth. Mix in the thawed garden peas and salt to taste.

  2. Shape the chickpea mixture into two burger patties.

  3. Heat ½ tablespoon of olive oil in a skillet over medium heat. Fry the falafel burgers until golden brown on both sides.

Assembling the burgers

  1. Slice the red onion into rings and the tomato into slices.

  2. Slice the hamburger buns in half and assemble each with a falafel burger patty, tomato slices, onion rings, and remaining parsley.

  3. Serve the burgers with sweet potato fries and your choice of sauce.

Notes

  • Double the ingredients if you want to make 4 burgers.
