More than 10,000 experts joined a landmark webinar series translating China’s top NeoProtein research priorities into action
ProVeg China and Jiangnan University have successfully concluded a three-part national webinar series that brought together more than 10,000 participants to explore China’s most pressing scientific and technological challenges in NeoProtein development. The series marked the first flagship initiative of the newly established NeoProtein Innovation Center of Excellence (CoE), a long-term partnership dedicated to advancing research, innovation, and collaboration across China’s alternative protein ecosystem.
The webinar series was built around the Top 10 Technical Challenges in NeoProtein 2025 Blue Paper, jointly developed by the NeoProtein Professional Committee of the China Institute of Food Science and Technology (CIFST) and ProVeg China with contributions from 48 leading experts. As China’s first expert-backed roadmap for NeoProtein research and development, the Blue Paper identifies the sector’s highest-priority scientific challenges while helping align research efforts, shape public R&D priorities, and inform future investment across the innovation ecosystem. Since its publication, the Blue Paper has helped shape research discussions across academia and government, influenced public R&D priorities, and catalyzed new research investment in China’s NeoProtein sector, demonstrating the power of expert collaboration to accelerate innovation across the ecosystem.
Featuring many of China’s leading scientists and industry experts in plant protein, microbial protein, and cultivated protein, the webinar series translated the Blue Paper’s priorities into active scientific dialog. Through knowledge sharing and cross-sector exchange, the series strengthened collaboration among researchers, universities, industry, and innovation partners, helping accelerate progress toward solutions for the sector’s most critical technical bottlenecks.
Earlier this year, ProVeg China and Jiangnan University established the NeoProtein Innovation Center of Excellence (CoE) to serve as a long-term platform for research collaboration, technology translation, talent development, and international exchange. Combining Jiangnan University’s world-leading expertise in food science with ProVeg China’s ecosystem-building capabilities, the CoE aims to bridge research, industry, and policy to accelerate innovation across China’s NeoProtein ecosystem.
Building on the momentum of the webinar series, ProVeg China and Jiangnan University will continue to convene leading researchers, policymakers, industry leaders, and innovation partners to translate scientific priorities into collaborative research, public investment, and real-world innovation. Together, they aim to strengthen China’s NeoProtein innovation ecosystem and contribute to the development of more sustainable and resilient food systems.
