Simple hummus

Hummus, the favorite spread of a great many people who eat plant-based. That is not surprising, because it is delicious and fairly healthy! Homemade hummus is a good deal healthier than most shop-bought versions, but also very tasty, cheap and quick to make. This basic recipe can be adjusted entirely to taste.

Ingredients

Servings: 8
  • 265 g
    chickpeas from a can
  • 3 tbsp
    tahini sesame paste
  • 1 tbsp
    olive oil
  • water for diluting
  • 1
    lemon the juice
  • 1 tsp
    cumin powder
  • 1 tsp
    paprika powder
  • 1
    garlic clove roughly chopped
  • salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Drain the chickpeas and put them in the food processor with the tahini, olive oil, a splash of water, the lemon juice, the cumin powder, paprika powder and the chopped garlic clove. Blend and make sure everything mixes well (this can also be done with an immersion blender). Taste and season with salt and pepper.

  2. Serving it to guests? Then it is very nice to garnish it with some fresh herbs, spices and olive oil.

Notes

Tip: you can make hummus exactly the way you like it, for example with coriander and lime, or parsley and harissa or cooked beetroot. There are so many ways to adapt this basic recipe.
