Danish smorrebrod

Smorrebrod is a traditional Danish breakfast dish: you make it by topping rye bread with cream cheese and all kinds of raw vegetables. This delicious recipe was developed by Crave Culture.

Ingredients

Servings: 4
  • 8
    slices of rye bread
  • 50 g
    (plant-based) dairy spread,
  • 50 g
    hummus
  • 50 g
    plant-based tuna
  • salt and pepper

Various toppings (of your choice!)

  • 200 g
    pre-cooked baby potatoes
  • 50 g
    radish
  • 100 g
    pickled red onion
  • 200 g
    cherry tomatoes
  • 2 tbsp
    capers
  • dill, parsley, chives or sprouts to garnish, optional

Instructions

  1. Smear the (plant-based) dairy spread, hummus and/or plant-based tuna salad on the rye bread and add some freshly ground salt and pepper.

  2. Cut the toppings such as radish, potato, cherry tomatoes and gherkin into thin slices and distribute over the rye bread. Try to make some different variations. Drain the pickled red onion and capers and distribute a small amount over the rye bread.

  3. Garnish with fresh dill, parsley and/or chives of your choice.
